Europe’s top level pattern season kicks off today with the first of 147 Group 1’s taking place in Paris with the Prix Ganay.
Treve the world’s top rated horse makes her seasonal reappearance. It’s hard to believe she’s only run five times in her life.
A maiden winner on her only run as a two year old she then won a conditions race for fillies over a mile as her prep to the Prix Diane where she had 4 L’s to spare over Chicquita.
Her astute trainer Criquette Head-Marrek then put her away for an autumn campaign where on reintroduction she took the Prix Vermeille by 1 3/4 L from Wild Coco.
Off course her main target was the Arc where she was a devastating 5 L winner from Orfevre.
Lit up, unsettled, running free it didn’t stop her travelling and displaying a brilliant turn of foot that made it all so easy for her. It’s no wonder her connections have an expectation she will be even better this year.
Mme Corine Barande-Barbe has managed the career of Cirrus Des Aigles beautifully. The gelding has run 50 times more than Treve. At times we thought he had come to the end but she kept telling us he would come back and in the Prix Dollar last year he duly did.
He’s done it all, travelled the world and met the best. He’s beaten the likes of So You Think, Giofra, St Nicholas Abbey and come second to the likes of Sarafina, Goldikova, Farhh and Frankel.
Last time out in the Sheema Classic he showed he was still capable of mixing it with the best when second to another wonderful filly in Japan’s Gentildonna.
Most likely he’ll come second again this time to the best since Frankel.
Recommendation : Watch Treve win
